Iranian immigrant donates money to local college
Oct, 04 2006 - 6:30 AM

EDMONTON/630 CHED - An Iranian immigrant who came to Canada 42 years ago with just 70 dollars in his pocket has donated one million dollars to NorQuest College in Edmonton.

Reza Nasseri never attended NorQuest but has electrical engineering and biomedical engineering degrees from the University of Alberta.

Nasseri says he chose the college for the gift because it offers character lessons on how to make it in Alberta, not just typical classroom learning.

About 60 per cent of NorQuest's 10-thousand students are immigrants, while about 20 per cent are aboriginals.
