Alberta's spring sitting and new budget about a month behind schedule

EDMONTON - Premier Ed Stelmach's government is delaying the start of the spring sitting of the Alberta legislature while his new cabinet gets organized.
A government official says pending cabinet approval, the new session will start with a throne speech on March 7, followed by up to fifty pieces of legislation.
Finance Minister Lyle Oberg has already confirmed the provincial budget won't be ready until April, several weeks later than normal.
The late start also means the spring sitting won't end until at least mid-June, about a month later than usual.
The government is expected to use the month of March to debate legislation, including Bill 1, which will create a new registry for lobbyists and contractors.
This will leave time in April and May for about six weeks of debate on the budget.
