Regional Dispute

EDMONTON - The minister of municipal affairs says he's going to get involved in the Edmonton area dispute. Minister Ray Danyluk isn't saying much about the details on how the Edmonton regional dispute might be resolved. At City Hall, in a briefing before city council, Mayor Mandel says he's glad the province is taking notice of how discussions between all of the 23 municipalities have played out. Last week reps from the four counties and from Fort Saskatchewan walked out of the meeting. Mandel is telling council that the province could soon mandate a solution, if they can't come up with one themselves. Mandel says on Thursday, Edmonton, Calgary and the provincial bodies for municipalities and counties will meet with municipal affairs in a session they call the four R's.
