Doctors double billing

ALBERTA/630 CHED - Alberta New Democrats are calling a woman a hero for helping the auditor general uncover over $700,000 doctors billed to two different agencies.
After a surgery, Patricia Reddy, 62, found a number of different medical treatments were being billed twice. She says she went to provincial Auditor General Fred Dunn four years ago with proof after no one else would listen to her complaint.
Dunn determined that doctors had billed Alberta Health $718,785 in 2005-2006 for services they also billed to the Worker's Compensation Board. NDP member Ray Martin says Alberta Health likely wasted millions of dollars over the past decade in similar costs.
Health Minister David Hancock seemed unaware of the auditor general's findings Tuesday, but said he'd be very interested in looking at them.
