Accused's lawyer says no info being passed on
Jan, 31 2007 - 6:20 AM

EDMONTON/630 CHED - The lawyer for an Edmonton woman accused in the death of a foster boy says police and the Crown are not providing her with information about the case.

The accused, who is charged with second-degree murder, made a brief appearance today in court and the matter was put over until next Monday. Shannon Prithipaul has been representing the foster mother since she was arrested last Friday.

Prithipaul told the judge that the Crown and police have not provided her with key information and she only found out about today's court hearing through the media.

She said her client is very distraught but is getting support from her family.

Alberta Justice spokesman David Dear says it's the responsibility of defence lawyers to ask the Crown for information about a case, and they have yet to get a formal request from Prithipaul.

The medical examiner's office released autopsy results which said the three-year-old boy died of cranial trauma.
