EDMONTON/630 CHED - Alberta's privacy commissioner has been appointed to investigate a privacy breach involving Winners stores and its customers.

The breach of the system allegedly put millions of consumers credit and debit information at risk.

The investigation will find out whether there's enough security safeguards in place to protect consumers.

But the privacy commissioner is already asking why Winners didn't go public earlier see some of the alleged breaches happened as early as 2003.
